Harton, Marsden and Tyne Dock<\/strong> are suburbs of South Shields in The Metropolitan Borough of South Tyneside, Between them there are 12 pubs, with four selling real ale. Within the area is the Westoe Village Conservation Area<\/a> , marked on map. Each pub below shows a link to the CAMRA Experience<\/strong> website, which give more details such as opening times. Formerly the Cyprus Hotel, then the New Cyprus, this pub stands out due to its external tiling. Buses to the town centre stop nearby. <\/p>\n\n\n

4. The Fountain <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Popular pub close to the coast and not far from the Twin Centre. Real ale discontinued on Autumn 2025<\/strong>.. The pub appears on the South Tyneside Local List<\/strong><\/a> Tel:-<\/strong> 0191 4554901. Regular buses to the Town Centre stop near the pub.<\/p>\n\n\n

The next five pubs (5-9) don’t sell real ale but are included as they feature on the South Tyneside Local List<\/a> <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Dating from 1809 and formerly called The Plough and The Tyne Dock Hotel. This is an L shaped pub on a busy roundabout in Tyne Dock. Tel:- 0191 4564363. Close to Tyne Dock Metro Station and buses to South Shields Town Centre and Jarrow. No real ale.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

7. Last Orders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built in 1904 as The Colliery Hotel, changing it’s name not too long ago. Tel :- 0191 4545165. Tyne Dock is about 10 minutes walk and there are plenty of buses to the Town Centre. No real ale.<\/p>\n\n\n

8. Marsden Grotto.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located on the beach at the foot of a cliff, the most unusual pub in the area, if not the country. It even has it’s own entry on Wikipedia. Tel:- 0191 4556060. There’s a bus stop outside the Grotto entrance, with a service to South Shields and Sunderland. Check pub website for opening times and dependent on the tides.. No real ale.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

12. The Westoe <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as being in The Westoe Village Conservation Area, the pub also features in the South Tyneside Local List<\/a><\/strong>. The pub is being refurbished from August 2024. There is no real ale. Tel :- <\/strong> 0191 4553450<\/p>\n\n\n\n
