Cleadon & Whitburn Real Ale Guide

Cleadon and Whitburn are villages in The Metropolitan Borough of South Tyneside, both lying mideway between South Shields and Sunderland . Between them there are six pubs, (with five selling real ale) , and one club. Within the area are the  Cleadon Conservation Area (1 on the map above) and Whitburn Conservation Area ( 6 on the map above) . Each pub below shows a link to the CAMRA Experience website, which give more details such as opening times. Cleadon

1. Cottage Tavern

2. New Ship

Sunderland Road, Cleadon, NE34 8DG New Ship, Cleadon – CAMRA Experience

Just north of the village on the main road to South Shields, this is a former Vaux pub which reopened in July 2025 after a nine month closure. No real ale Tel :- 0191 4560510 Buses to South Shields and Sunderland stop nearby.

3. Stables

Micropub which opened in 2021. Up to two handpulls usually on. Within the Cleadon Conservation Area. Tel :- 0191 4478460 Bus to Boldon and Seaburn outside the door.

4. Toby Carvery

Whitburn

5. Blues Micro Pub

Micro Pub in the centre of Whitburn Village There are usually five real ales and up to six real ciders on offer. No phone number available…contact via Facebook. Buses to South Shields and Sunderland stop outside the door.

6. Jolly Sailor
