Ryhope, Doxford & Herrington Real Ale Guide

Ryhope is a former mining community on the southern extremity of the Borough of Sunderland. To the east of Ryhope is Doxford Park and The Herringtons. Between them there are six pubs and three clubs. of these pubs, 3 clubs, 1 hotel and 1 brewery. Of these six have real ale. Within the area is Ryhope Village Conservation Area ( 1 on the Ryhope map). 4. Guide Post

Popular local in former Ryhope Colliery. Three well kept real ales are available and the pub is a regular entry in The Good Beer Guide. Tel – 0191 5235735. Buses to Sunderland and Doxford stop nearby.

5. Railway Inn

Robson Place, Ryhope, SR2 0PQ  Railway Inn, Ryhope – CAMRA Experience

Grade II listed building ( Historic England website ) tucked away to the south east of Ryhope Green. Small bar with two handpulls, one in use on August 2024 visit.

6. Ryhope Catholic Club.

This club is not far from The Guide Post and is a keen real ale outlet. Suggest contact the club to confirm opening hours :- 0191 5213437. Bus stops to Sunderland and Doxford about 5-10 minutes walk.

9. The Stables

The pub with no obvious sign. Very much food led but does offer two well kept real ales. Tel 0191 5855131. Bus stops to Sunderland and Washington on main road
